FormWork brings a visual form builder, server-side logic, structured data, and workflows together in one hosted platform.

FormWork is a hosted form platform for developers, agencies, and operational teams. Use it when a form needs to calculate a quote, collect repeated data, support internal review, or keep working as the process changes. Build and publish forms visually, embed them in your website, or build a custom interface with the REST API.

## Choose your way to build

**Build in FormWork.** Create the fields, rules, workflow, and internal views in the application. Preview, publish, then share a form link. The [quick start](/docs/getting-started/quick-start) covers this path.

**Embed in your site.** The `<formwork-form>` web component loads a published form, manages answers and validation, and can coordinate with your site's JavaScript. Use [embedding and theming](/docs/embedding/web-component) to keep your existing website.

**Build a custom interface.** The public OpenAPI specification documents the REST API. A headless integration gives you control of the interface, along with responsibility for its session handling, errors, uploads, and user experience. Keep account API keys on your server.

## Know the boundaries

FormWork is an online hosted service. Server-side calculations and workflow execution require connectivity. Form versioning preserves the context of old submissions; it does not automatically migrate every historic answer into a new field structure. A headless interface and custom third-party integration still need development and testing.

A simple hosted form may be a better fit for a short survey or contact request. Custom software may be a better fit when the application needs a specialised interface or behaviour outside FormWork's model.
