# Field Types

Choose from all 27 built-in input, structured, container, and content fields.

Choose a field type by the data you need to store and the control a respondent should use. This page is the quick catalogue; [Field Settings](/docs/forms/field-settings) lists every option.

## Text and identity

### Text

A single-line input. Use browser hints for autocomplete, keyboard mode, capitalisation, and spellcheck, plus optional minimum and maximum length.

### Email

A single-line input with email format validation. It supports the same browser autocomplete and text-entry hints as Text.

### URL

A web-address input with URL validation and optional minimum/maximum length.

### Textarea

A multi-line input with configurable rows, resize direction, and length limits.

### Phone

An international phone control. You can show or hide the country-code selector and choose a default country code.

### Password

A masked input with optional confirmation and requirements for length, upper/lowercase, numbers, and special characters. Do not use it as a substitute for a full authentication system.

### Hidden

Not rendered to respondents. It can receive a fixed or dynamic default and be updated by workflows or the API. Hidden fields cannot have display logic and are not treated as visible inputs when other client display rules reference them.

## Numbers and time

### Number

Stores a numeric value. Configure minimum, maximum, step, decimal places, thousands separators, display prefix/suffix, and numeric or decimal keyboard hints.

### Slider

A required range control with minimum, maximum, step, optional value display, and prefix/suffix. Use Number when exact typing is more appropriate.

### Rating

A bounded numeric rating displayed as stars, hearts, numbers, or emotions. Optional low/high labels explain the scale.

### Date, Time, and DateTime

- **Date** supports earliest and latest dates.
- **Time** supports seconds, earliest/latest time, and step in seconds.
- **DateTime** supports earliest and latest combined date-time values.

## Choices and booleans

### Toggle

A boolean presented as a checkbox, switch, or rich toggle. **Require true** is useful for required acknowledgement or consent.

### Select

One choice in a dropdown, with optional search and an optional **Other** answer.

### Radio

One choice shown as radio controls, with an optional **Other** answer.

### Multiple Choice

Several choices shown as checkboxes or pills, in a column or responsive row. It can enforce minimum and maximum selections and allow **Other**.

All three choice types can use manual options or dynamic Data Table rows. Manual options save the option ID; table options save the row ID. See [Using Data Tables as Options](/docs/data-tables/options-source).

## Files and signatures

### File

Uploads one or more files. Configure allowed MIME types or extensions, maximum size per file, single/multiple mode, and minimum/maximum file count. The maximum configured count is 20.

### Signature

A drawing canvas in compact, standard, or large size. The captured signature is represented as PNG image data in the answer.

## Structured fields

### Name

A system-managed group for title, first name, middle name, last name, and suffix. Title, middle name, and suffix are optional switches. Choose row or column layout.

### Address

A system-managed address whose parts can be enabled individually: street, second street line, city, state, postcode, and country. Country can be unrestricted, restricted, or locked. Optional HERE-powered address lookup can suggest addresses.

### Group

A container for user-defined nested fields. Choose column or responsive row layout, then add child fields. Make the group repeatable for line items, attendees, dependants, or similar records.

## Content and actions

Content fields do not collect respondent answers in the normal way.

### Heading

Displays a heading from `h1` to `h6`. Its content can be plain or generated from a template.

### Paragraph

Displays explanatory text in plain or template mode.

### Button

Displays either a workflow button or a link. A workflow button can start **Button Clicked** triggers; a link has a URL and optional new-tab behaviour. The label can be plain or templated.

### HTML

Displays plain or template-generated HTML. FormWork removes unsafe markup before displaying it.

### Image

Displays an image URL with alt text, optional width, and left/centre/right alignment.

### Video

Embeds YouTube, Vimeo, or a direct video URL with autoplay and controls switches.

## Extension fields

Installed extensions can add more field types, such as a provider-specific payment field. Their controls appear alongside built-in types. Availability and configuration depend on the project's installed extension and enabled environment.

## Shared capabilities

Most answer fields support label, description, read-only, repeatable, default value, validation, and display logic. Placeholder and Required only appear where meaningful. Continue to [Field Settings](/docs/forms/field-settings) for the exact matrix and every control.
